I’m just a girl from Oakland,CA who had the privilege of attending the illustrious Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU). From there I moved to Chocolate City , Washington, DC. I thrived during the Golden Years of the Obama Presidency; from the inauguration of the first Black President to the opening of the Blacksonian AKA the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC). For 10 years I taught history in Prince George’s County and Washington DC public schools. In 2016 there was a seismic shift, and for many reasons DC no longer felt like home. I spent a whole year trying to figure out why I wasn’t getting hired to teach in Dubai, because it felt like everyone was, did a colorful stint in social work, and started my life abroad. Starting in 2018 I lived in Kaohsiung Taiwan for 2 years. When my contract there was over, I moved to Cairo Egypt where I currently reside. I am an educator, life enthusiast, pleasure advocate, world traveler and storyteller. This blog is intended to tell authentic stories about being Black and Abroad and give a few Travel Tips along the way. LOL
